Profile of the Sakura Kai Dance Troupe

The Sakura Kai Dance Troupe is based out of the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They have existed for approximately 35 years and they have a terrific following.

The Sakura Kai Dance Troupe performs both classical and neo-classical Japanese dances. There are seven different levels within the Sakura Kai dance. They are the, "Sakura", "Sumire", "Kiku", "Fuji", "Suisen", "Yuri", and "Azami".

Below is a picture of the Odori dancers (Sakura Level) performing in the Tokyo Pavillion during the 1997 Metro Toronto Caravan. They are performing a dance called Hama Chidori – little clover birds emerging from the nest for a midnight flight.
